We're Diggin It!!

Just hours after signing our lives away at the loan closing, we have our very own hole! That's Andy on the mountain we've made out of a mole (or groundhog) hill. He's really loving that big pile of dirt because he'll be spending "all his spare time" shoving it around the yard with his tractor.

These guys should be finishing up the house excavation part tomorrow after another day of digging.

Just a couple more views of the hole we call "HOME"

Hmmm............a glimpse of the better side of our builder and foreman??

Gratitude vs. Attitude

I have to admit, this whole process can be a bit overwhelming and frustrating. So many decisions to make, trying to make those decisions while staying within our budget, not to mention trying to make those decisions without snapping each other's head's off! When we tell someone we're building a new house, most responses are, "That's great, what fun for you guys!" Oh yeah...........Fun, this is supposed to be fun. While frustration is expected, this really is supposed to be fun. That's where I have to take a step back and check my attitude. Gratitude minus gratefulness leaves you with a great big ole attitude. A little lesson in humility learned from families of the children I work with, from my own life experiences, and the tragedies going on all across the world. While I don't have an answer for all the choices we have to make, I do have an answer for the attitude that rears it's ugly head when I'm feeling frustrated by the spinning wheels. Keeping ourselves grateful and humble. While we aren't millionaires, Andy and I have a lot. Lots more than most folks. More than anything tangible, we have each other, and that's more than I've ever dreamed of. But for all we do have, there's even more that we don't have, that I am very grateful for. We haven't suffered the loss of our child or each other, the loss of our home, the loss of our city, (although losing Durham ......HeHeHE........Just kidding), or the loss of our means of existence. Through God's blessings, we've never had to stand in line for food, water or shelter. We both have good health, great jobs, but most importantly family and friends that love and support us. Let's not forget those two very cute dogs and one chubby little cat that needs an attitude check once in a while too?! So from this point on, I proclaim this project to be fun, with a capital "F"! Our new mantra, to be shared with all we love..... Gratitude vs Attitude!

Countertops, Cornerposts and Crazy Critters...

For what the picture's worth, here's a glimpse of the granite we've chosen for countertops........this is getting kind of exciting now! We did a LOT of browsing for the best colors, the best prices, and we found both at one place. Their website gives you a better glimpse of the actual colors, it was hard to pick it up with my digicam and the harsh lighting! Check out: www.countertopcompany.com
The color is Madura Gold, have a look!

Okay, here's a couple views of where they'll start excavating for the house. It's hard to see the stakes for the cornerposts, but squint really hard, they really are there. The first one is the view you'll get from the driveway.

And this one is the view from the front right hand corner of the house.....well....ummm.... squint a little harder, you might even see Andy!

As we all know, every job site needs a supervisor and this one is hard at work, doing what he does best!

Hey, what's this?? Apache has found herself some help Guard Dawgin! Mmm, vicious looking bunch, ehh? Did I hear a request for bigger backyard and a pond. (sigh) I guess good helps comes with a price!
